When you are working abroad, whether as a missionary, a nanny, or a student, you should check on travel insurance. Standard travel insurance covers any emergency medical expenses, personal accident, personal liability including a rented accommodation, theft, or damage to your bags. Due to the specifics of working outside of your home country with the duration of your stay over 6 months and where the possibility of acquiring the assistance from locals is limited you should rethink your travel insurance needs.

Some of the most popular programs that would require you to travel overseas are the Peace Corps, doing missionary work, working as an Au pair for a family that is either visiting or living aboard, and a student exchange. The Peace Corps and missionary work is similar with the main difference being that missionary work can come from many churches. Both require you to work with underprivileged people, some in the third-world countries. Working as an Au pair is a fancy name for a nanny. Working at this job, you will be responsible for taking care of the children, making sure that they eat on time, take a bath, and go to bed on time. They are also responsible in making sure that the children are entertained when not in school.

Working at any of these jobs comes with some risks. One of the main risks is your health, especially if you are in the Peace Corps or working as a missionary. Some of the places where you will be working at have no running water, or bathroom facilities, and they live in houses with a dirt floor. Working in these conditions you can get malaria or ill from bacteria-infected water or food. You need to make sure that you have an adequate health insurance to cover the diseases you might get. Working as an Au Pair, you should also have a health insurance policy to cover any accidents, illnesses or personal liability. Be warned that certain insurance companies will have a limited coverage for people involved in such types of program so be advised to check out what kind of benefits you will receive from them.

There are basically two types of insurance cover. Firstly, there is the temporary cover which is ideally suited to holiday makers and people going on short visits. Then there is the more comprehensive cover which is specifically for people intending to stay in Europe for extended periods of time.

Some insurers will automatically offer comprehensive European car insurance cover for up to 90 days, valid in all EC countries with no requirement that the motorist must inform the insurer the intended dates of travel. This is ideal for holiday travellers and perfect for short business trips. Other insurers will want to know beforehand the date of travel and the duration of the trip. They will also inform you of the amount of free European car travel insurance cover you are entitled to and what additional cover is available.

Some companies will charge a little extra for comprehensive insurance including European breakdown cover. Something to be aware of, the cost of recovering a vehicle outside of the UK especially when there are no suitably equipped garages nearby to service the car can be extremely expensive. For instance, Auto parts in Europe for cars with right hand drives are not commonly available and the cost of returning a car to the UK could run into several hundreds of pounds.

One important document you will need to take with you and your insurer will provide is the ‘Green Card’, although this is no longer a legal requirement when travelling in Europe it can make life so much easier in the event of an accident. The green card is internationally recognized and confirms that you have the minimum level of car insurance coverage.

Finally if you do intend to spend more time in mainland Europe and require a longer term insurance cover it may be worth considering an international car insurance policy. Speak to your insurer, they will be able to advise you which policy would be best suited to your needs.

Whenever you plan your trip out of country or plan to move out to visit abroad you need to take care of lots of things like your bookings, your luggage, your money and your tickets. All are done on time but the only thing you forget to take care is your visitor insurance. It is really important for your health that you get yourself insured when you are travelling abroad. Whenever you move abroad it is recommended to get yourself and your family members insured for health as the medical expenses abroad are really high. An emergency can arise anytime and with anyone and especially for people who are already on medication, it is really important to get yourself visitor insurance done as there is a change in the climate too.

However, when you get your visitor insurance done you must read the policy document very carefully and also see as to what type of coverage is being provided to you for the same. It is really important to go through the documentation, terms and conditions and also see as to what extent the expenses are being covered in the policy taken for the visiting trip. No matter what your age is; whether you are a student, a couple or an old age person who is travelling abroad you must get yourself insured.

The main reason to get yourself insured is your protection as well as your safety as an emergency can arise at any point of time. It is always wise to get yourself insured and enjoy your trip to the fullest without any worries. Visitor insurance can also cover auto insurance if you are going to drive in another country; it will cover all the expenses in case of any mis-happening while you are driving. The premium you pay on the insurance depends upon the country you are visiting as well as your medical history and your purpose of visit. In case you are perfectly fit and not on medication, the premium charged to you will be less as compared to the one who is already on medication and has to travel abroad.

There are always many risks involved with traveling outside your own country and travel insurance for Europe is essential, despite the fact that you may think it is not a very “exotic” location. You may always fall ill, suffer an accident, or have a sudden change of plans, no matter where you are in the world. The peace of mind that you purchase with travel insurance for Europe is, in my mind, absolutely priceless. Just think about it: when you are on holidays, you simply want to be able to have a carefree time without needing to worry in the back of your mind. Of course, should anything detrimental actually occur, it may spoil your vacation regardless. However, the degree to which it may affect you will be determined by your travel insurance coverage.

There are many types of coverage for travel insurance to Europe. There is medical coverage for illness and accidents, trip cancellation/interruption coverage for unforeseen circumstances that alter your plans and baggage insurance for your possessions. You must determine what you may require for yourself because the combinations of coverage are many. In general, it is always a good idea to purchase some form of medical insurance, even if it is the most basic coverage. You do not want to have to pay out of pocket for hospital and medical bills if you become sick abroad. If you have chronic conditions or are of a certain age (over 50) then it is smart to purchase further protection with a more comprehensive medical plan.

People think that they do not need it, but the twist of irony is that it covers “unforeseen” circumstances. Hence, you are unlikely to predict that you will require this coverage. If you need to get home, of course you will forfeit the rest of your trip because of family priorities. But, it is best to protect yourself beforehand and to be able to recover your costs later with travel insurance to Europe that has trip cancellation/interruption coverage. Baggage insurance is an iffy one. The airlines usually cover you for a certain amount, ranging from $600-3000; they are liable to give you some sort of compensation if they lose your bag. That being said, certain travelers carry very expensive items around like top-of-the-line cameras. If this is you, then you need to consider taking out additional travel insurance for Europe to cover your particularly dear luggage.

Germany and France have been named as the most expensive places to have a motorway mishap, emphasising the need for drivers to ensure they have suitable car insurance in place for European travel. Research from Aviva found that the average bill if you cause a crash in Germany is £2,940, which is more than 50 percent higher than if you crash a car anywhere else in Europe. There is a need to be wary of French drivers too, as personal injury claims in France average nearly £10,000. It’s not just in these two countries where Brits must be cautious, however. Across the whole of the continent third party claims have risen by 10 per cent and personal injury claims have increased by 20 per cent.

Many drivers mistakenly believe that they will receive the same level of cover on the continent as they do in the UK. In fact, the majority of car insurance providers only offer the most basic form of car insurance in Europe even if you have a comprehensive policy at home. To check whether you will have the same level of cover in Europe as at home you should contact your insurer and ask. It may be that you need to take out additional cover – which will typically cost around £20.

Even if it’s European cover matches what you have at home, check the length of time that this applies for. Some insurers offer 90 days of cover for continental travel, but with other insurers only a handful of days will be covered. If adding European cover seems like an expense you could do without then see if there are other ways to reduce your car insurance premiums. For example, have you informed your insurer if you have security devices on your car or if you park in a garage overnight? Both could earn you discounts.

Europe is the second largest continent in the world. This is a diversified continent because of its cultural diversification. An established fact about the continent which came out in the year 2004 is that Europe is visited by the 59% of the total people visiting across the world.

If you’re planning a trip to a popular ski resort in Europe with friends or family, why not travel together in a minibus.

It can be better value for money if everyone chips in to hire a minibus rather than paying individually for air fares or train tickets. Costs like minibus insurance, fuel and ferry fares can be shared and it will add up to a lot less for each person than most other forms of travel. Not only this, it’s also great fun. Driving through Europe with friends and family becomes a real adventure. Unlike travelling by air or rail, you’ll be able to really experience the countries you pass through. And it will become a holiday in itself even before the skiing starts!

Don’t get confused between minibuses and people carriers. A minibus is defined as a vehicle that can carry at least seven seated passengers, but not more than sixteen. If the vehicle has more than sixteen seats then you’re driving a bus!

If you’re travelling with friends and family there are obviously no fare paying passengers. Remember to tell your minibus insurance provider this as the journey will be classed as private and non-commercial. This makes a difference when your premium is calculated.

There are a number of essential documents, as well as the minibus insurance certificate, that the driver must carry when driving from the UK to a European destination. If you’re travelling only within the European Union member states and the ASOR European Union signatory states, which includes Turkey, Norway and Switzerland, you’ll need a “waybill” that acts as a “control document”.

A Green Card, while not necessarily essential for the trip, will serve in the EU as recognised proof of your valid minibus insurance. It will also make any claims that may arise much easier to deal with. Remember that every country has its own local driving laws that you should be aware of. Your minibus insurance will depend on all local laws being observed.

For international journeys originating in the UK, the minibus insurance will depend on the driver complying with EU drivers’ hours whether or not the driver is being paid. This means that a properly calibrated tachograph needs to be fitted to the minibus. Insurance claims are not likely to be honoured if the proper drivers’ hours are not closely observed.

It is important to carry all the documentation required for the journey. The “waybill” has already been mentioned. If the minibus is owned by a member of the group and not hired, then an Own Account Certificate (OAC) is required. The vehicle registration document should also be carried along with a European accident form. Remember that the minibus will need to have a prominent GB sticker displayed.
